Maturation of Instruments for Assessing Technology in Education

Ten Years of Student Attitudes Toward Computers and Education

Students at a rural public high school in Texas responded to items on two attitude surveys in May, 2000: the Computer Attitude Questionnaire (CAQ; Knezek, Christensen, & Miyashita, 1999; Knezek, Christensen, Miyashita, & Ropp, 2000) and the Young Children's Computer Inventory (YCCI; Knezek & Miyashita, 1993; Knezek et al., 2000). Many of these students had previously completed the YCCI in primary school in 1991 and 1992. This paper presents an analysis of longitudinal changes in attitudes and attributes among these students; a transformation procedure for comparing CAQ and YCCI scores; a reexamination and confirmation of the YCCI factor structure; complete YCCI response distributions from the 1991-92 and 2000 administations; and comparisons with scores obtained in 1993 from other students in Texas, Hawaii, and Japan.
