The Institute for the Integration of Technology into Teaching and Learning (IITTL),
housed at the University of North Texas, is chartered by the UNT Council of
Deans to conduct research and implement best practices in the area
of teaching and learning with technology. IITTL's instruments and
online data collection systems have allowed gathering
data from thousands of educators in recent years. IITTL employs many individuals who are
currently doctoral candidates in information technology programs
at UNT.
Dr. Gerald Knezek, Professor of Learning Technologies, is Director of IITTL. Dr. Rhonda
Christensen, Research Scientist, and Dr. Tandra Tyler-Wood, Associate Professor of Educational
Psychology, are Associate Directors.
Since its founding in 1999, IITTL has housed a Capacity Building and
Implementation Grant in the Preparing Tomorrow's
Teachers to Use Technology Program (PT3), an evaluation contract
for a large Technology Innovation Challenge grant (Key Instructional
Design Strategies), and an Intel Preservice Teach to the Future grant.
IITTL has also been a collaborator on a PT3 grant directed by
the University of Nevada-Reno
and was closely affiliated with an NSF gender/equity grant
(Bringing Up Girls in Science). Current IITTL projects include a Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education
(FIPSE) simMentoring Grant, an NSF Disabilities Research grant on Simulated Enhanced Training for Teachers (SETT), and an NSF Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers( ITEST) project, Middle Schoolers Out to Save the World(MOSOW).
IITTL has generated four books and more than one dozen refereed
journal articles in the area of impact of information technology
in education.
